| Archbishop Kurtz congratulates Joe Dant on 70 years of marriage |
Nonie Dant met her husband, Joe, while she was on a date with someone else.
Nonie’s unlucky suitor had run out of gas and Joe Dant happened to be ambling down the same Louisville street with several friends.
“They were a rowdy bunch,” Nonie, 90, said, smiling. “They pushed us to a gas station and then the next day, four of the fellas called me to ask me out.”
Joe shrugged as he listened to Nonie tell their story.
“She was a pretty cute chick so all of us were chasing her,” Joe, 91, said. “But I ran faster.”
The Dants were among 155 married couples honored yesterday during a special celebration mass held at the Cathedral of the Assumption.
