All Saints Mass and anniversary 180th celebration

Around fifty parishioners of all ages gathered for Mass yesterday evening to celebrate the 180th anniversary of the founding of All Saints Church.

Father Scott turned out the church lights prior to the homily. Pointing to the church windows, he pointed out the effect the sunset had on the colors of the windows. The yellow windows looked brighter, the color of the dark windows more subdued.

Father Scott compared the effect that the sunset had on the church windows to the light of Christ that is in us all. Sometimes the light shines brightly, sometimes more subdued. Nevertheless, the light is always there. The same light that illuminated the lives of the saints that we were celebrating on that All Saints evening.

Father Scott pointed out that there are all kinds of saints. Franciscans, Dominicans, white, black, yellow, and red, but, like us none of them were perfect. Those who were martyrs and those who were not. They all had the light that unites us all. The light that calls us all to live our lives for the Kingdom.

Father Scott said that although most of us will not be called to give our lives for the Kingdom as many of the canonized saints did. We are called to continue the mission of Jesus, and give our lives for the Kingdom in our own way.

Father Scott concluded the homily by saying, if you're looking for saints today. Look in the mirror. We all have the light. We are all called to be the saints of today. What a beautiful message.

After Mass, we all gathered in the parish hall for desserts and fellowship.

All Saints pray for us!
