Boy shot in Glenmary is expected to survive

A 12-year-old boy was shot late Monday in the 7700 block of Kendrick Crossing Lane in the Glenmary area of southeast Jefferson County but is expected to survive, police said.

The youngster, who was not immediately identified, was taken to University Hospital. The shooting was reported shortly before 10 p.m., said Louisville Metro Police spokesman Dwight Mitchell.

Witnesses told police that the wounded boy and several friends had been playing a game of ringing doorbells or knocking on doors and then running away when the shooting occurred.

Police were questioning a man, Mitchell said, but no further details about the man were immediately available.

Jim Natsis, a neighbor, said he did not hear the gunfire but later saw the boy’s wound.

Natsis said the youth was sitting up and was conscious when the ambulance arrived. He said the boy, also a neighborhood resident, appeared to have a shotgun wound in the back.
