
Funeral, visitation and other plans have been finalized for Archbishop Thomas C. Kelly, the former leader of the Archdiocese of Louisville who died Wednesday at age 80.
Kelly’s funeral will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Cathedral of the Assumption, according to plans announced Thursday by the archdiocese.
The archdiocese also announced events leading up to the funeral. All are at the cathedral, located at 433 S. Fifth St.
The schedule follows:
Sunday: Rite of Reception of the Body, 7:30 p.m. Public visitation, 8-9 p.m.
Monday: Public visitation, 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Vigil service, 7 p.m.
Tuesday: Public visitation, 11 a.m. -1:30 p.m. Funeral, 2 p.m.
Louisville Archbishop Joseph E. Kurtz, who succeeded Kelly in 2007, will preside at all events, the archdiocese said.
Tentative plans are for Archbishop Emeritus John R. Quinn, the retired archbishop of San Francisco, to preach at the funeral Mass.
Sante Fe, N.M., Archbishop Michael J. Sheehan is scheduled to preach at the vigil.
Kelly served as head of the archdiocese from 1982 to 2007.
After his retirement, he assisted at Masses, confirmations and other activities while in residence at Holy Trinity Church in eastern Jefferson County, where he died in his sleep Wednesday morning.
