I have come to notice that my Friday blogs have taken on a “freaky-Friday” sort of light-hearted quality. I figure readership is a little down on Friday evenings into Saturday and those who do read prefer a shorter text. This Friday evening post in no different. As of tomorrow, it will be Lent for all. According to the Roman rite, this has already begun with Ash Wednesday, while according to the Ambrosian rite used in the archdiocese of Milan, which observes an older calendar, this dynamic period of the liturgical year begins on the sixth Sunday before Easter.

I don’t understand what they priests are thinking when they take away things during Lent which are of benefit during our time of spiritual combat. The remove Holy Water from stoups, for example. That is a useful sacramental in a sacred season when the Enemy is working to make us fall.
