Review: Mid-Kentucky Chorus • Celebrating The Sacred Song Concert

If you weren't at the Mid-Kentucky Chorus Concert at Saint Francis Xavier on Sunday, you missed a great celebration of sacred music. More than 400 parishioners and visitors gave director, Teresa Tedder, solists Lisa Williamson, Angela Nance, Jamaal Stiles, Robyn Mays and Kirk Mays, pianist Joanna Ximenes and the rest of the members of the chorus, which included the multi-talented Father Ben Brown, a rousing standing ovation at the end of the concert.

The chorus sang a wide range of music from Mozart and Shubert, to a Black spiritual written by William Dawson, to "Old Time Religion" written by Mark Hayes. It was difficult for the writer to choose a favorite. They were all wonderful.

We were blessed to have the Mid-Kentucky Chorus to share their beautiful voices with us as we celebrate our 165th anniversary of our parish in the Archdiocese of Louisville. The next anniversary event at Saint Francis Xavier will be a parish mission led by Father Ron Knott from March 20-22. I have attended missions and retreats led by Father Ron, they were thought provoking, deeply moving spiritual experiences. It will be a great way for all of us to start our 2011 Lenten journeys.

If you missed the concert at Saint Francis Xavier. the Mid-Kentucky Chorus' next performances are at Saint Catherine Hall, Saint Catherine College, Springfield, KY on Saturday, April 30 at 7:30 PM, and at the Saint Joseph Proto-Cathedral, Bardstown, KY on May 1 at 3 PM.
