Deacon Joe Calvert: Atheist-to-Deacon Conversion Story

Louisville Young CatholicsTuesday, May 10th 7PM @ Saints SkyBar
131 Breckenridge Lane, Louisville KY 40207
The Season of Easter — 50 days from Easter Sunday to Pentecost — is all about conversion: At Easter Vigil the Church welcomes converts through the waters of Baptism and the strengthening oil of Confirmation.
In Scripture, we remember how Jesus’ own disciples are converted as they personally encounter the risen Lord and how numbers of converts are added to the Church through the sacrificial love of Christians and the apostles’ public testimony.
Keeping in that theme of conversion and the continual change we are all seeking in the Christian life, next Tuesday we’ll hear the story of one guy who believed so passionately against the Gospel that he purchased copies of Bertrand Russell’s “Why I Am Not a Christian” to pass out around UofL’s campus.
Through a long and curious series of events venturing through modern philosophy and skeptism, God slowly changed his views and finally lead him into ordained ministry as a Catholic deacon. His dominating presense and charismatic personality will make for a lively and thoughtful discussion… this is a awesome night to invite someone who is skeptical about Christ or for anyone who simply enjoys a good conversion story!
