FAITH MATTERS TO ME: Perfect in God's Eyes

From The Herald News by Brenna Riley

My education in the Catholic faith started from the moment I was born. I was brought into this world by the most wonderful parents, one of which happened to be a Catholic school teacher, while the other’s mother was the director of religious education at the same parish. I entered the same Catholic school at 5 years of age, and my religious education was developed by a variety of teachers until I graduated in eighth grade.

After graduation I furthered my religious education at CCD for two more years, until I completed the sacrament of confirmation. All the while being involved as an altar server and for several years a choir member.

Today, Mass has become incompatible with many people’s busy lives. There is also no emphasis on the importance of being part of a community that shares a belief system. Being part of a Catholic church has taught me more than I could have ever expected, including how to accept myself, how to treat others, and most importantly how to believe in something bigger than myself.

Over the last several months, I have come to realize how my faith affects me as a person. When I go to Mass I am truly a happier person. The other parishioners at my church have become an extension of my family, a whole community of people that love me for who I am. Having a strong religious faith has allowed me to become closer to others and closer to myself through God.

Although I may never know why I was put on earth, I can be content with knowing that God created me the way I am for a reason, and, therefore, even with all my faults, I, like every other person, am truly perfect.
